Check In
Requirements: A Passport with a valid Visa is all
that is necessary to register at any hotel in Nantong.
To comply with Chinese laws, the hotel will typically
register your presence at the hotel with the local police.
(See Government
Regulations). If you are in doubt whether this
has been done, check with the hotel management, or go to the
local police or Entry-Exit Administration Department and
register yourself.
Payment
Requirements: Most major hotels accept payment by
credit card. However, lesser hotels may not accept
credit card payments. If paying by cash, you will be
required to pay for the total number of nights you intend to
stay in advance, plus an additional one night rent as a
deposit. The hotel will give you a receipt for this
deposit as well as the rent that you are paying. Do
not lose this receipt. The hotel may ask to see it
when you check out.
Room
Amenities: All hotels provide soap, shampoo and
towels at the minimum, free of charge. Most also
provide tea or coffee service in the rooms. A few
hotels offer non-smoking rooms. The 4 and 5 star
hotels often offer or provide a mini-bar for their guest's
convenience. All hotels provide at least 1 bottle of
bottled water for their guest. This water is free, and
is left on a counter in the room. If there is bottled
water in the mini bar refrigerator, there will be an
additional charge for that water.
When
booking your room, clearly specify the type of room that you
want, especially the type of bed that you desire. Many
hotels offer twin beds, and will call that a "double."
Room
Discounts: Most hotels will negotiate room rates.
Don't be afraid to ask. The discounts of course will
often depend on the hotel's vacancy rate at the time.
Long term stays will attract a much larger discount than for
a day or two stay.
Safety
and Security: Many hotels have security cameras in
the hallways. Some hotels in Nantong also offer or
provide "in room safes." In general, and this is
throughout the world, these types of safes provide only a
deterrent and a low level of security and should not be
considered to be extremely secure.
